George Jones was hired at CNMC in 1969. Marchel Smiley first met George at the old hospital on 11th NW. George attended the Union organizing meeting and said what he & his co-workers wanted most was to be treated with respect at work. George is the only remaining employee who signed the petition to bring Local 722 into CNMC.
For those who can’t use Labor Night tickets on Sunday, July 30, 2017 for the 7pm game, you have an extended time to swap them out, but you have to go to the box office to do it. You have until September to exchange but obviously earlier is better. This differs from what’s in the rain policy.
In honor of Black History Month we will be showing the Movie “The Birth of a Nation” at 3:00pm on February 18, 2017. The membership meeting will start promptly at 2:00pm. Bering the family and friends to enjoy this fellowship and great movie. Refreshments and snacks will be served. Click here for flyer.
SEIU Local 722 and Children’s National management have conducted eight (8) bargaining sessions. The last session was June 23rd. Although we have reached agreements in several important areas, we remain far apart in several others. Our Contract expires at Mid-Night Thursday June 30th. This is the critical point where your actions and support will make the final difference.
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week, we are asking each of you to participate in actions which will demonstrate our unity and resolve.
Tuesday June 28th is “RED DAY”. We request all SEIU members and supporters to wear something “RED”.
Wednesday June 29th is “GREEN DAY”. We request all SEIU members and supporters to wear something “GREEN”.
Thursday June 30th is “Black Day and Day of Absence”. We request all SEIU members and supporters to wear something “BLACK” and “STAY OUT OF THE CAFETERIA DURING BREAKS AND LUNCH”.
Contract negotiations with Children’s National is rapidly approaching. We anticipate starting in mid-May. Because we are a diverse membership there are various definitions of what is a successful outcome.
Increased income tops everyone’s list. Our younger members seek upward mobility; members with school age children are focused on medical benefits; our high skilled group want parity with the RN’s and professional recognition; those approaching retirement want better pension options; PCT’s and PSA’s do not want assignments as “SITTERS”; those who habitually call-in or be late, want more hours to call-in or be late; while those that come to work every day want us not to protect those that call-in and be late.
No matter how you define success, these three (3) factors are necessary for bargaining to be successful.
It is with a sad and heavy heart that we have to notify our members, friends, and the labor and political community of the passing of Mr. DuJuan “Rick” Malachi, 50. Rick was the Political Director/Organizing Director/Business Agent and Jack of all Trades for SEIU Local 722. We are still in the process of gathering information on his passing. We will update this site as we get more information. Our deepest sympathy and condolences goes out to Rick’s family and friends.
